The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is a three-hour test that is administered by The College Board, offered nationwide on a voluntary basis, and measures verbal and mathematical reasoning abilities. Scores are recorded on a 200-800 scale for both the math and the verbal sections, making the total battery score in a range from 400 to 1600. A score of 500 in each section (a total of 1000) is an average score. The purpose of the SAT is to assist admission officers in evaluating applications for admission to college. The use of SAT scores combined with the high school record increases the accuracy of the prediction of college freshman grades over the use of SAT scores or the high school record alone.

While the composite SAT scores per school may not have changed significantly over this period, the percentage of 12th graders taking the test in Allen County fluctuates. While the US and Indiana have been relatively constant in this six-year period, in 2002, New Haven, Bishop Luers, and Concordia experienced their lowest percentage of students taking the test during this period. Snider's participation rate has inched upward, and Wayne experienced its highest percentage in 2002. While "further studies may be needed", a trend of this sort may indicate a change in atmosphere within the school.
